Emmanuel Del Rio (He/Him)
Senior Manager, Educator Support
Manny began his educational journey as a National Science Foundation (NSF) Noyce Scholar and Golden Apple Scholar. Through his NSF mentor, Dr. Rochelle Gutierrez, Manny developed a passion for mathematics from a social justice perspective. As a Golden Apple Scholar, Manny learned to love teaching and grew his leadership capacity.
Before joining the Modern Classrooms Project, Manny spent over a decade of his career in Chicago Public Schools (CPS). During his time at CPS, he taught high school mathematics while eventually obtaining his National-Board Certification in math. Afterwards, he served as a Network Office 13 Math Instructional Support Leader for K-8 schools, and was part of the CPS District Office High School Math Specialists team. Manny enjoys coaching and facilitating professional development because he believes that professional growth is a transformative process that occurs with teachers, and not to them.
Manny earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a Master of Science in Teaching and Learning from the University of Saint Francis, and is currently a Doctoral Candidate (PhD in Curriculum and Instruction), preparing to defend his dissertation in the next few months.
As Senior Manager of Educator Support for Mathematics, Manny works to help teachers and administrators foster academic excellence along with mathematical joy using the Modern Classrooms model.
Manny lives in Chicago with his wife and Australian Shepherd. When he's not working or buried in his dissertation, he enjoys taking long walks with his dog and catching up on his favorite shows!
