Master Professional Educator
Arkansas math teachers can earn their Master Professional Educator designation through the Modern Classrooms Project Math Mentorship Program, an ADE-approved pathway built on high-quality math curricula.
A Yearlong Pathway
The Math Mentorship Program pairs you with a dedicated coach to design and launch a blended, self-paced, mastery-based math classroom built on your school or district's high-quality instructional materials, including Illustrative Mathematics and Eureka Math².
Because the Arkansas Department of Education recognizes the impact strong teacher leadership has on student outcomes, educators who complete the program and demonstrate high-quality implementation in their own classroom are eligible for the Arkansas Master Professional Educator designation.
“Modern Classrooms has helped me to think about teaching differently.”
Jeremye Rose, 6th Grade Math Teacher, James Martin Middle
Three Steps to Your Designation
Launch Training
Attend a two-day, in-person Launch Training grounded in your curriculum and standards that explores the four core domains of the MCP model.
A Year of Implementation & Coaching
Build and refine your classroom across the school year with monthly virtual workshops and quarterly coaching calls with your dedicated math coach.
Site Visit & Designation
Complete a required site visit demonstrating high-quality implementation. Then apply for your Master Professional Educator designation through ADE.
Step 1: Complete the Launch Training
The pathway begins with a synchronous, two-day Launch Training where you experience model lessons, internalize your curricular resources, examine sample schedules and classroom layouts, and begin drafting your implementation plan.
Launch Training anchors you in four core domains:
Designing Class Time: Building a schedule that blends whole-class instruction with differentiated work time
Supporting Pacing and Differentiation: Giving every student the space to move at their own pace
Supporting Mastery: Building revision and reassessment routines tied to student data
Launch Planning: Preparing your classroom, students, and families for the shift
Step 2: Implement & Grow With a Coach All Year
Following Launch Training, you'll put what you've learned into practice in your own classroom, supported by monthly virtual workshops and at least four coaching calls with your dedicated coach across the year, focused on launch reflection, problem-solving classroom challenges, and analyzing student growth.
Together, you will:
Design and test schedules and routines that integrate whole-class openings, differentiated work time, and closing routines aligned to your curriculum
Implement progress tracking, revision, and reassessment routines based on student learning and mastery
Translate coaching feedback into next steps for your students
Step 3: Complete Your Site Visit
A site visit is optional for general program participation, but required for educators pursuing the Master Professional Educator designation. During the visit, our staff observe live instruction using the Arkansas Math Mentorship Program Classroom Implementation Progression and Walkthrough Tool. Visits typically happen mid- to late-year, once you've had time to implement and refine your model.
To be recommended for the designation, you must reach the "Refining Implementation" band in both:
Whole-Class Learning Activities
Whole-class openings aligned to high-quality, standards-based math content, with regular opportunities for discourse and cognitive engagement.
Differentiated, Competency-Based Learning
Students progressing based on demonstrated mastery, with clear and consistent revision and reassessment routines
If you’re not quite there: You'll receive detailed, rubric-aligned feedback on your strengths and next steps. You remain a completer of the Math Mentorship Program and can continue refining your practice, with the opportunity to pursue the designation again in a future cycle.
