Some educators choose to sometimes classify entire lessons as “must do” lessons, “should do.” and others as “aspire to do.” Other educators choose to identify parts of a lesson as “must do” or should do.” We trust teachers’ professional judgment to tailor this structure for differentiation to best suit their discipline, project, or lesson. As long as each student has the opportunity to learn new content or skill, develop mastery, and demonstrate mastery within each lesson, even when completing a “must do” path, equitable differentiation is occurring.
