Education Innovation and Research Grant: Modern Classrooms Project & American Institutes for Research
Modern Classrooms Project and The American Institutes for Research (AIR) have partnered for a five-year longitudinal study to measure the impact of the model on student outcomes in middle school math.
Modern Classrooms Project supports educators in developing modern instructional strategies that support students academically and personally. As a nonprofit organization, our goal is to evolve education beyond the traditional factory model, improve the quality of support educators can provide to their students, and increase the sustainability of the teaching profession. We believe that if we reimagine what teaching can look like, we can build classrooms where students can truly learn.
As part of this project, we have come together with the American Institutes for Research, also known as AIR. AIR is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization that conducts behavioral and social science research and delivers technical assistance both domestically and internationally in the areas of education, health, and the workforce. AIR’s work is driven by its mission to generate and use rigorous evidence that contributes to a better, more equitable world.
Modern Classrooms has received a five-year research grant from the Education Innovation and Research Grant Program from the U.S. Department of Education to examine our model’s impact on middle school math outcomes in Title I schools across the country. As part of this grant, we will:
Conduct a pilot study with two partner districts
Conduct a randomized control trial of the model’s impact in math classrooms
Complete the study and produce a summary of report findings.
This study will allow educators to learn about a new model of instruction, take advantage of additional support, and participate in focus groups, interviews, and surveys.
